Overview
Parole in Place (PIP) is a discretionary grant that allows certain individuals who are physically present in the United States without having been formally admitted to be “paroled” in place — that is, treated as if they had been inspected and paroled — which can, in turn, open the door to adjustment of status in appropriate cases.
Who it may help
PIP has historically been most established for certain family members of U.S. military service members and veterans, in recognition of the hardship that immigration uncertainty places on military families. The availability of PIP in other contexts depends on the policy in effect.
